A humildade como princípio do aprendizado segundo Hugo de São Vítor
Main Article Content
Abstract
Humility, according to Hugo of Saint Vitor, must be understood in two complementary senses: the first sense is cosmological; and the second covers the moral level. From these distinctions we will notice that, at its base, education requires the preliminary formation of humility, without this “root of all virtues” – as master Vitorino names it – it will not be possible to form man in an integral way; the nature of humility is confused with the apprehension of reality, as it is a sine qua non of the contemplative life. Only those who get their inner focus right will be able to look soberly at their end. Humility is contemplation in embryo.
