Abstract
Presents the thought of the Magisterium of the Church in the 20th century and the beginning of 21st about sacred art. Shows the positions of the popes prior to the Second Vatican Council and their reserves concerning the use of art in the ecclesiastical ambit. Highlights the change of attitude and the stance of the Church concerning the art and its use, specially in the liturgic ambit, with its origin principally in the Liturgical Movement and crystallized in the Second Vatican Council. Analyzes the Magisterium referent to the art of the popes post-council: Paul VI, John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis, that are closer to the artistic reality.
