The procedure for discerning alleged apparitions and revelations
Main Article Content
Abstract
The numerous phenomena of apparitions, not only Marian, and revelations that are part of Church history have become more and more frequent in recent decades. Therefore, the question of their discernment arises for the Church, to which the competent Authority is obliged, primarily to protect the ecclesial community not only from frauds but especially from possible confusions of the authentic faith, which stands on Apostolic Tradition, Sacred Scripture and the authentic Magisterium.
The present contribution analyses the canonical norms that should guide the discernment of these phenomena, in the awareness that the fundamental principle underlying the procedure envisaged by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith is that all these cases do not fall “within the deposit of faith,” so they can never contribute anything to the Revelation of Christ, which is already complete and definitive, but only help -eventually- the faithful in their journey of conversion to the Lord.
