Educating for truth according to Hans-Georg Gadamer
Main Article Content
Abstract
At the heart of the human person is the thirst for knowledge. It is the thirst for truth. If there is this thirst then truth exists. Its absence would make the seat itself absurd. It remains, however, the difficulty of finding the truth and propose it for others. That is the challenge of educators, parents and teachers. In this article I propose to present my work, in the light of HansGeorg Gadamer, as means, in alternative to the exact sciences, in which the truth can be found. The educational process can make use of them and thus promote the student the encounter with the truth. The methodology used is bibliographical research. Some of the Gadamer’s texts were used as well as his commentators. The starting point is the difference between formation (Bildung) and education (Erziehung). To him “formation” is a process related to the human person through which it gives a form of humanity itself. “Education” is the help that is provided for the individual in his continuous formation. In this process Gadamer gives a special place to the truth as aletheia (event). So the truth is an encounter. It happens. The means through which these happen are: aesthetic experience, dialogue, language and contact with the Greek classics. Of all these, the dialogue is the privileged place for the manifestation of truth. At the end I conclude with the thought of Gadamer that indicate the means to find the truth, but also it creates space for universal coexistence. Before the violent and exclusionary pluralism context this is an excellent pedagogical proposal.
