Information For Authors

1. Editorial Policy

Brasiliensis, a journal of the Centro de Estudos Redemptoris Mater de Brasília, is a biannual publication that welcomes articles, essays, critical notes, and reviews in the fields of Philosophy and Theology. We seek works that contribute to the development of these disciplines, maintaining coherence with Catholic faith and morals.


2. Types of Contributions

  • Academic Article: Academic research that addresses a specific topic or author.

  • Essay: Proposal and defense of a thesis, with an experimental or argumentative approach.

  • Critical Note: Critical analysis of another author's work.

  • Review: Summary and critical analysis of a recent book.


3. General Submission Guidelines

  • Originality: Submissions must be original and unpublished, not having been previously published or submitted simultaneously to another journal.

  • Academic Integrity: The author commits to ensuring the originality of their contribution, declaring that the text does not contain plagiarism, nor total or partial copies of other works without proper attribution and citation of the sources used. Any indication of plagiarism or self-plagiarism will result in immediate rejection of the manuscript.

  • Evaluation Process:

    • After submission, the Editorial Board will acknowledge receipt of the work.

    • The Editorial Board will conduct a preliminary assessment to verify the manuscript's suitability for the journal's scope and policy.

    • Works approved in the preliminary assessment will be sent to an external peer reviewer under the double-blind review method, ensuring impartiality of the process.

    • The author will be informed of the evaluation result and, if applicable, any revision suggestions.

  • Author Identification (ORCID): It is mandatory for the lead author to have an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). If you do not yet have one, you can obtain it for free at https://orcid.org.

  • Submission Format: The manuscript must be submitted according to the specifications detailed in the "Manuscript Format" section below.

  • Submission of Copies: To ensure the double-blind review process, two versions of the work must be submitted:

    1. Version for Evaluation (Anonymous): This copy must omit all data that could identify the author(s), including names, affiliations, acknowledgments, or explicit references to previous works by the author that could reveal their identity.

    2. Complete Version: This copy must include all identifying data for the author(s): full name, institutional affiliation, highest academic degree (at least a bachelor's), and email address. It is recommended to also include a brief curriculum vitae (max. 100 words per author).

  • Citation Style: Citations and bibliographic references must follow the Chicago 17th Edition, Notes and Bibliography Style (Full Note). For a complete guide, consult the Chicago Manual of Style Online at https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html.

  • Submission Method: Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the journal's online platform. To start the submission process, please access: https://brasiliensis.cerm.org.br/index.php/brasiliensis/about/submissions

  • Accepted Languages: Brasiliensis accepts works written in Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, and English.

  • Abstract and Keywords:

    • Academic articles, essays, and critical notes must be accompanied by an abstract and 3 to 6 keywords.

    • The abstract should be a maximum of 250 words. It should concisely present the objectives, methodology used, and results achieved. The abstract should preferably be written in the 3rd person singular active voice.

    • The keywords (3 to 6) must appear immediately after the abstract, separated by a period.

  • Research Funding: If the research presented resulted from funded work, the funding agency and the project code to which the research belongs must be clearly indicated on the first page of the article (or in a footnote on the first page).

  • Open Access Policy and Licensing: Brasiliensis is an Open Access journal. Starting January 1, 2025, all published works will be licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). This allows others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as appropriate credit is given for the original creation. Authors retain the copyrights to their works. Articles published before this date remain under the previously applied license.

  • Printed Copies: Authors will receive two printed copies of the issue in which their work is published.


4. Manuscript Format

  • Word Processor: Submit the text in WORD (.doc, .docx) format or another easily editable format.

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12.

  • Line Spacing: Single line spacing.

  • Page Format: Pages in A4 format (21 x 29.7 cm).

  • Page Numbering: Bottom-centered page numbering.

  • Paragraph Alignment and Indentation:

    • Body paragraphs should be justified and have a first-line indent of 1.25 cm.

    • Long direct quotations (block quotations, 40 words or more) should have a left margin indent of 1.25 cm, double spacing before and after the block, and font size 10.

  • Work Length:

    • Academic Articles, Essays, and Critical Notes: Maximum of 10,000 words (including footnotes and bibliography).

    • Reviews: Maximum of 3,000 words (excluding footnotes).

  • Heading Structure:

    • Article Title: In uppercase letters and centered.

    • Section Headings (Level 1): Font 12, bold.

    • Subsection Headings (Level 2): Font 12, bold and italic.

    • Sub-subsection Headings (Level 3): Font 12 and italic (no bold).

  • Abstract and Keywords:

    • The abstract should be a maximum of 250 words. It should concisely present the objectives, methodology used, and results achieved. The abstract should preferably be written in the 3rd person singular active voice.

    • The keywords (3 to 6) must appear immediately after the abstract, separated by a period.

  • Footnotes:

    • Footnotes must have unique and continuous numbering throughout the text.

    • Footnote text should be justified and in font size 9.

  • Bibliographic References:

    • The Bibliographic References section (or "Bibliography") should include only the works cited in the text.

    • They must follow the Chicago 17th Edition, Notes and Bibliography Style (Full Note) format.

    • They should be left-aligned and have a hanging indent of 1.25 cm (the first line of the reference left-aligned and subsequent lines indented).

    • When appropriate, this section can be divided into "Primary Sources" and "Secondary Sources" (or "Bibliography").
