Abstract

For Christians, forgiveness according to the words of Jesus reported in the Gospel of Luke becomes a support to face with faith and psychologically (in accordance with adequate anthropology) traumas similar to the crucifixion. The words of Jesus on the cross serve as a model of forgiveness, a gift of the Spirit which is incarnated in the believer, and which transforms his psychology as a victim and his relationship with the executioner. The victim’s response in faith is such as to avoid the psychological consequences of the trauma and allows forgiveness to be given as an expression of total love like that of Jesus crucified. The relationship with the Trinity becomes a key element: immersed in it, the Christian experiences the beneficial effects of divine sonship, resists the stress of trauma and offers forgiveness as a manifestation of a perfect love gift from the Father. The proposed analysis, combining Revelation and the Word of God with revealed psychology, presents Jesus’ forgiveness as a transformative resource for Christians in the face of violence and an aid to their psyche until forgiveness towards the executioner.
